I spoke at eyeo festival on Truth and Beauty

Moritz Stefaner keeps chasing the perfect form for information. In his talk, he will deconstruct some of his recent works, shedding some light on his work process and the rationale behind the design decisions. We will also learn about some of his experiences in how to make a living as a freelance information visualizer, and why a flower garden can be a perfectly fine data visualization of the latest OECD country ranking. Also, he has a lovely German accent.

I received an honorary mention in the visualization category of WIRED UK's list of "Grand designers: The world's best design work".

SIGGRAPH Information Aesthetics showcase

I exhibited the well-formed.eigenfactor project at SIGGRAPH09 in the Information Aesthetics showcase and gave a 20-minute talk on the project.

I gave a one–day workshop in the master's program and a talk at HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd, one of the most recognized German design academies.

Seed magazine features a short text and interview about my work as part of the informatics chapter of their state of science 2008 dossier.

xtopia

Microsoft Germany invited me to talk about "Information Design - Intelligente Visualisierungen in interaktiven Medien" at their xtopia conference
The talk was fun and also received quite well; in the audience evaluation, I scored 7.88 (out of 9) for presentation style, 8.33 for competence, 7.85 for content of the presentation and 6.82 for business relevance.

VizThink '08

I held a session at VizThink ‘08 about visual tools for the socio-semantic web. From the announcement:
"In this break-out session at VizThink 08, Moritz Stefaner will present visual strategies to understand and discuss emergent information architectures in the web. Phenomena like the mainstream acknowledgement of the web as a social platform, and the first steps towards a semantic web (as envisioned by Tim Berners-Lee a decade ago) demand for new approaches to information handling. Following the research agenda for web science, visualization can not only help to understand these emerging structures, but also to shape and steer interface design. We will discuss and criticize existing and cutting-edge approaches to search and browsing of resources and the visualization of conceptual structures."

I was invited by the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for media.art.research to speak at the Salon in Linz, a regular colloquium with external speakers. I talked about visualization, information aesthetics and my master's thesis.
